You don’t want to go through your serious regimen if you’re just going to a coffee bar with a few friends- but how can you let your personal style shine through without going over the top?
Steps
- Get dressed in all your inner layers of clothing. This means comfortable underwear, a step above what you’d lounge around in, stockings or hose if you want and a long-sleeved shirt for cold weather. A base colour for the shirt, like black or dark red, is good. If you want to show off gloves or arm-warmers, feel free to cut the sleeves back to halfway.
- Think about what you want to wear on your legs. Bondage pants are fine for pleasant weather, but if it is very cold you should layer something underneath if there are metal parts that touch the skin. Any other pants you want to wear, or an attractive skirt, will be fine. Just keep to a muted colour scheme, unless you like contrast very much.
- Look through your tee shirt collection. Pick a band tee for something that isn’t completely mallgoth- for example, please wear your E Nomine tee instead of- or, over- your Nine Inch Nails shirt. If you choose a particular character tee or cartoon character, you might want to choose a major color from the image and use it with your accessories. For example, a GIR tee may warrant your horrible acid green earrings. Or not.
- Add gloves, bracelets, legwarmers, and super-special sox.
- Go do your hair. If necessarily, recoat your nails in a clear topcoat, or repaint them if they look ragged.
- Do your makeup properly (see related wikiHows). Don’t upstage your clothing by wearing black lipstick, kei eyeliner, red contacts and the dangly skull nose ring just yet- keep it understated yet still entirely visible. If you’re not going for kinderwhore, keep your nails away from your face. You’ll smear, scratch and ruin it all.
- Lace up your boots, grab your bag and go. Don’t zip or lace your boots with made nail
Tips
- Be careful to not overlayer during the summer, a warm spring or a warm winter. Remember, you’re wearing mostly black. You will overheat.
- With wet nails or particularly sticky lip makeup, you run the risk of glueing your hair to your face. Be careful.
- If you are tring to downtone your make up some, a suggestion is a dark shade of red lipstick and a little less eyeliner, if possible.
